Lyrics by Stacey Philipps with inspiration from the Oregon Repertory Singers Youth Choir
Duration: ca. 2:30
Difficulty: Moderate (GIA level 2)
The lyrics to this rippling, lapping, sparkling song about water came after an energetic brainstorming session on the images and feelings evoked by the mention of water, from rain to rivers to oceans. The revolving melody and almost-constant piano ostinato imitate water perpetually moving through its cycle, from mountaintops to sea and back again.
(Drip, drop)
Flowing water, constant motion:
Ice melts, water slips to the ocean.
Water moves in endless cycles:
deep blue sea to Mt. Hood* idylls.
Trickling, lapping, joyful!
(Raindrop)
Snow and ice are water frozen,
Springtime breeze puts clouds in motion.
Rain in spring smells so good outside,
One warm roads and near ocean's tide.
Echoing, pattering, rhythmic.
Water is invigorating,
Splashing, swimming, ice skating.
Too much water leads to floods,
This source of life can be too much.
(Raindrop)
Flowing water, constant motion:
Ice melts, water slips to the ocean.
Water moves in endless cycles:
Deep blue sea to Mt. Hood* idylls.
(Snowflake)
Ice to Ocean to Ice
